Drive to Myrtos, the best beach in South Crete image

Myrtos village is located 13 km west of Ierapetra. Myrtos has one of the best beaches in South Crete with ash sand and crystal clear waters that are worth diving and enjoying the blue sea.

An important advantage is that the area is not affected by the meltemia and the strong north winds that you will find on many beaches in southern Crete, such as on the beaches near Ierapetra.

The main beach is located right in front of the taverns and cafes in Myrtos, and extends to the west, where its width is greater. If you continue further west you will find beaches that you can camp, while the beach in the settlement of Terza (4 km) is wonderful.

In the village of Myrtos you can take a walk in the port or in the traditional alleys, to see the green courtyards and the houses that remind of Aegean landscape. Also, it is worth exploring the nature that surrounds the village and takes a walk to Nea Myrto with its many greenhouses. You can also visit the two Minoan settlements of Fournos, Koryfi and Pyrgos, which were discovered after excavations, as well as the very remarkable Archaeological-

Folklore Museum of Myrtos, next to the old church of Agios Antonios. Also in the village, you will see the monument to the fallen with the names of the 18 victims who were executed by the Nazis in 1943, in retaliation for the death of two Germans in the nearby village of Kato Symi.
Driving to Myrtos is unchallenging and the beach is easily accessible.
